Description
SpeediCath Flex
Sterile catheter, coated and ready for use.
The product is indicated for intermittent catheterization through the urethra or a continent urinary stoma. It can also be used for intermittent dilation of the urethra.
It is indicated for:
-urinary retention and/or post-micturition residual volume;
-urethral stenosis.
The product can be used by adult males.
The choice of catheter model and size for each individual patient is made based on the recommendations of the local healthcare professional.
Self-catheterization can be performed by users who have learned the technique from a healthcare provider. If a user needs assistance, catheterization can be performed by a caregiver who has learned the technique or by a healthcare professional.
The term "continent urinary stoma" refers to a continent, catheterizable skin conduit.
The package can remain folded for up to 3 hours without being damaged.
Disposable.
Sterilized by irradiation (R).
How to use
Preparation:
Wash your hands with soap and water and gently clean the area around the urethral stoma/continent opening. It is important to avoid transferring bacteria from your hands to the catheter. If a caregiver is present, they should wash and dry their hands, then put on clean gloves. The package contains the coated catheter, immersed in a water-based solution. Before opening the catheter package, make sure you are fully prepared to proceed with catheterization. If there is no restroom nearby, you can connect the catheter to a urine collection bag or use another collection container.
-Opening method 1: Tear open the package. Remove the catheter.
-Opening method 2: Attach the package to a horizontal surface using the top of the adhesive label on the back of the package. Tear open the package. Remove the catheter.
Twist to open the catheter. Before proceeding with catheterization, empty the water from the drainage end into the toilet or sink. Alternatively, you can connect a urine collection bag to the appropriate connector and drain the water-based solution directly into the bag. To drain the last drops of water-based solution, simply slide your fingers over the protective guide.
Application:
-Catheterization through the urethra:
Self-catheterization: Lift the penis with one hand to straighten the urethra. Gently squeeze the sides of the glans to open the urethra and carefully insert the catheter. While supporting the penis, insert the tip of the catheter into the urethral opening. Once the tip is inserted, be sure to hold the penis and the soft turquoise grip in the same hand. With your other hand, begin to slide the protective guide wire to advance the catheter toward the bladder. Just before the catheter reaches the bladder, you may feel a slight resistance from the sphincter. To avoid making insertion more difficult, do not compress the penis. Continue inserting the catheter until urine begins to flow, and then continue for a short distance.
Catheterization performed by a caregiver or healthcare professional: Hold the penis elevated toward the abdomen. This position facilitates the guided insertion of the catheter into the urethra. Gently press on the sides of the glans to open the urethra and carefully slide the catheter into the urethra. Continue inserting the catheter until urine begins to flow, then continue for a short distance.
-Catheterization through a continent urinary stoma: Catheterize in the same manner as for catheterization through the urethra, but insert the catheter into the continent urinary stoma, rather than the urethra.
-Catheterization to dilate the urethra: catheterize in the same manner as for urethral catheterization, but with the primary goal of dilating the urethral passage. The catheter should be inserted to the depth indicated by the healthcare professional. Remove the catheter immediately after passing the stricture.
Removal:
When urine flow stops, gently twist the catheter to drain any residual urine into the bladder. Then, withdraw the catheter 1 to 2 cm. If urine flow resumes, wait a few seconds before withdrawing the catheter another 1 to 2 cm. When urine flow stops, slowly remove the catheter.
Disposal:
The product is resealable for convenient transportation and disposal by reconnecting the two turquoise ends. If a urine collection bag is attached, it must be removed before resealing the product. Place the catheter back in the package. Use the label on the back to reseal the package. The product is for single use only and should be disposed of according to local guidelines, such as household waste. If a urine collection bag is attached, discard it with the catheter or disconnect the empty bag according to the bag's user instructions.
Warnings
The product is single use only, do not reuse due to the risk of cross-contamination which could potentially cause infection.
Recycling, disinfection and/or resterilization may compromise the characteristics of the product, resulting in a further risk of physical harm or infection to the user.
For proper use, consult your healthcare professional before performing self-catheterization for the first time.
Contact your healthcare professional if you notice that your catheter is not draining your bladder properly, as this may indicate the need for a different size or type of catheter.
Contact your healthcare provider if you experience fever, discomfort when emptying your bladder, frequent urination, or blood in your urine, as these may be symptoms of a urinary tract infection. Other side effects related to intermittent catheterization may include pain, controlled bleeding, a false catheter path, and the development of urethral strictures.
Do not use if the package is damaged, as the sterility of the product may be compromised and potentially cause infection.
If a serious incident occurs during or as a result of using this product, please report it to the manufacturer and the relevant national authority.
