What is it and what is it for?
DOLAUT MONO is a medicated plaster containing piroxicam, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug with strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Its pharmacological effects are primarily due to the inhibition of prostaglandin synthase.
The activity of the active ingredient administered topically in various models of acute and chronic inflammation is evident even in the presence of reduced plasma levels.

DOLAUT MONO is indicated for the treatment of painful and inflammatory conditions of a rheumatic and traumatic nature of the joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments.


What you need to know before taking the medicine
When not to use:
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients
- On open wounds or lesions
- Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes
- In case of history of hypersensitivity reaction (asthma, allergic rhinitis, skin rashes and anaphylactic reactions) or gastrointestinal bleeding from anti-inflammatory drugs
- In the presence of active peptic ulcer, in patients with bronchial asthma or on anticoagulant therapy
- pregnancy and breastfeeding
- children under 12 years of age


Warnings and precautions
Analgesics, antipyretics, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including piroxicam, can cause hypersensitivity reactions, potentially serious even in subjects not previously exposed to this type of drug.
DOLAUT MONO should be used with great caution and as directed by a doctor in the elderly, in patients with chronic bronchitis, allergic rhinitis, or inflammation of the nasal mucosa (in whom asthma attacks or severe inflammatory reactions of the skin and mucosa are more frequent), in patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases (such as gastrointestinal ulcers, ulcerative colitis, or Crohn's disease), in patients with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding not secondary to the use of NSAIDs or with other bleeding disorders, with liver or kidney dysfunction, or with heart failure. To avoid possible hypersensitivity or photosensitivity reactions, avoid exposure to direct sunlight.

If you develop a rash or skin symptoms, you should stop taking DOLAUT MONO immediately, seek medical advice immediately, and inform your doctor that you are taking this medicine.


Possible side effects
Like all medicines, DOLAUT MONO 14 mg medicated patch can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The use of DOLAUT MONO may cause the appearance of allergic skin reactions, erythema, itching, irritation, burning, contact dermatitis, numbness and tingling at the application site;
Cases of extensive and severe dermatological lesions such as urticaria, Quincke's edema, and erythema multiforme have been reported with this type of medicine.
Photosensitivity skin reactions and more extensive and more severe reactions, including asthma attacks, are possible.
Systemic adverse reactions following topical use of piroxicam are unlikely; since the plasma levels obtained are lower than those measured after systemic administration but vary greatly from individual to individual, it is not possible to exclude, especially in the case of prolonged therapy beyond the recommended term and failure to observe contraindications and warnings, the appearance of systemic adverse effects, especially at the gastrointestinal level.
In case of local or general side effects, it is necessary to discontinue treatment and consult your doctor to establish an appropriate therapy.
