Chlorhexidine digluconate
What is it and what is it for?
Plak Out contains chlorhexidine digluconate, a local oral disinfectant that acts on the mucous membrane of the mouth.
Plak Out is indicated for disinfecting the mouth, gums and throat of adults in cases of difficult oral hygiene.
Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after a short time of treatment.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Don't use Plak Out
- if you are allergic to chlorhexidine digluconate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Plak Out.
Use of topical products, especially if prolonged, may cause allergic reactions (see section "Possible side effects"). In this case, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor who will initiate appropriate therapy.
Use Plak Out only for local use, without ingestion.
If you accidentally ingest or inhale this medicine, contact your doctor or the nearest hospital as accidental ingestion or inhalation of some disinfectants can have serious, sometimes fatal, consequences ( see section 3 “ If you use more Plak Out than you should”).
Avoid contact with eyes.
The medicine is not contraindicated for subjects suffering from celiac disease.
For those who do sports
Plak Out contains ethyl alcohol which may cause a positive result in doping tests in relation to the blood alcohol concentration limits indicated by some sports federations.
Children and adolescents
This medicine should be used only when absolutely necessary and after consulting your doctor.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects have been reported:
- slight alteration of taste (after rinsing)
- slight yellowish discoloration of the tongue and teeth, following continued use at high doses.
Tongue discoloration disappears by reducing the frequency and duration of rinsing, while a good toothpaste is sufficient to eliminate enamel pigmentation.
