Eye mask
Medical device used for the home treatment of eye disorders due to blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelid margin), meibomian gland dysfunction (blockage or functional alteration of the meibomian glands), styes and chalazion.
The self-heating eye mask provides rapid and long-lasting relief from discomfort caused by tear film instability, such as dryness, tiredness, burning or excessive tearing of the eyes.
Once activated by the snap of the metal discs, the eye mask heats to a suitable and constant temperature. The heat produced by the gel contained in the mask warms the cotton pads, generating a warm, delicate steam that is evenly distributed around the eyes.
Moist heat:
- unblocks the meibomian gland ducts, gently softening hardened secretions and promoting their expulsion through massaging movements on the eyelids. Clean and open meibomian gland ducts distribute lipids normally, making the tear film more stable.
- softens crusts on the eyelid margin, making them easier to remove and reducing the risk of eyelash loss. Heat improves blood flow to the eyes, speeding up the healing process of styes and chalazions.
How to use
Remove the bag and throw it in the trash. If the bag has been accidentally torn, first thoroughly clean the mask according to the instructions.
Wash your hands with soap and water before and after each use. Remove any contact lenses and eye makeup. Do not use makeup, creams, or lotions while wearing the mask. Apply any medicated creams or eye drops only after removing the mask.
The eye mask is ready for use when the orange contents are liquid. If the contents still have a solid, ice-like consistency, follow the instructions to boil them and make them ready for use.
Using the eye mask with cotton pads ensures a moist and comfortable temperature. Use new, clean cotton pads for each treatment (not included).
Before each use, check the mask for any damage or signs of leakage. Do not use the mask if it is damaged.
Make sure there is sufficient lighting and wear glasses if necessary.
The orange gel in the bag should be liquid (soft and pliable). If the mask is as hard as ice, follow the boiling instructions.
Moisten two cotton pads with tap water. Insert them so that the cotton pads are directly in front of the oval windows. Close the snap button on the eye mask.
Do not use the eye mask without cotton pads as the high temperature could burn the skin.
To activate the mask, press the two metal discs inserted into the mask openings until they snap together. Hold each disc firmly with both hands and "bend" it until it clicks into place. The orange liquid solidifies and heats up. Massage the orange liquid into the mask to even out the temperature, making it softer and more pliable. The temperature of the heating mask reaches approximately 45°C. After about 5 minutes, the heat gradually decreases. Test the temperature on the inside of your forearm to see if the heat feels comfortable on your skin.
Place the eye mask with the cotton pad side over your eyes and place the strap around your head. Adjust the strap for a comfortable fit. Do not apply excessive pressure to your eyes. Allow the pleasant warmth released by the mask to act on your eyes for 5-7 minutes.
Cleansing the eyelids is an important step. Remove the cotton pads from the eye mask, then use them to massage and clean the lash margins as follows: massage the upper eyelid 5 to 10 times, moving from top to bottom across the entire eyelid. Then massage the lower eyelid 5 to 10 times, moving from bottom to top across the entire eyelid. Finally, clean the eyelid margins again with new, moistened cotton pads. Discard the cotton pads after use.
- For a chalazion: Use the mask 4-5 times a day. The heat helps thin the secretions of the meibomian glands. Gently massaging the area with a clean finger promotes the expulsion of sebum from the glands. Do not squeeze or pop a chalazion, but rather massage it toward the eye to promote the slow expulsion of small amounts of thinned sebum from the clogged sebaceous glands. The growth then tends to gradually regress.
- If you have a stye: Use the mask 4-5 times a day to speed up its healing. It is not necessary to massage the stye. Do not try to squeeze or pop the stye, as this could spread the infection to the eyelid.
As soon as the boil bursts, the discomfort disappears. However, the swelling may also persist, but it may not cause pain. Later, it tends to stabilize and encapsulate, eventually developing into a chalazion.
Boiling after use: Remove the wrapper, the elastic headband, and discard the cotton pads. Remove the gel sac from the mask and place it in a clean pot (about 2 liters). Once the water boils, reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes until all the crystals have dissolved and the contents of the orange gel sac have returned to a liquid state.
Use a slotted spoon or large spoon to dip the mask into the water and then remove it. Do not use a fork or knife, as they may damage it. Remember to set a timer.
After boiling: place the mask on clean kitchen paper and let it cool for 30 minutes.
Cleaning the casing: Avoid boiling the casing with the gel pack or putting it in the dishwasher, as the material tends to harden. Remove the elastic headband if it doesn't need washing. Use a clean cloth dampened with soapy water to clean the casing for 30 seconds.
To prevent allergic reactions, rinse the case thoroughly with warm tap water to remove any detergent residue. Let it air dry, but not so long as to allow it to become contaminated with dust or food.
After a few hours, dry all parts with clean kitchen paper and check that it is clean.
Components
The POSIFORLID eye mask is a gel mask, containing two metal discs made of phthalate-free PVC and a solution based on sodium acetate, colorant (both food grade) and water.
Contains no latex or silicone.
Warnings
Do not use the eye mask immediately after boiling, as it is still too hot and could cause burns. Wait at least half an hour until the eye mask has cooled to room temperature.
Do not heat the eye mask in the microwave or directly on a heating pad. Direct contact with hot surfaces will damage the mask.
If you have to leave the kitchen area while boiling, always turn off the heat source to prevent the water from evaporating completely.
Do not allow children to be present without adult supervision while boiling.
Do not remove the mask from the water with your bare hands. The mask is too hot and could cause burns.
If the heat of the mask is uncomfortable, stop using it and wait a few minutes until the mask cools to a comfortable sensation. Check the skin under the mask regularly; it should not become red.
Use the mask with caution on children and the elderly to avoid causing burns to the skin.
Always supervise children while using the mask and regularly check under the mask for skin reactions to heat.
You can chill the mask in the refrigerator, but avoid placing it in the freezer. This could damage the mask.
Do not use the POSIFORLID eye mask if it is leaking or damaged. If the gel inside the mask accidentally comes into contact with your skin, rinse thoroughly with soap and water. After contact with your eyes or mouth, rinse with running water for several minutes. If irritation persists or if the gel comes into contact with a child's mouth, consult a doctor.
Although the mask's ingredients are food-grade, it is not edible. It is intended for external use only on undamaged skin.
Do not cut or open the mask. Do not sit or lean on the mask, as this may cause breakage or leakage.
Do not use the mask if you have a known hypersensitivity to any of the mask's ingredients.
For hygiene reasons, do not reuse cotton pads and do not share the mask with other people.
Do not boil the mask with food or allow it to come into contact with butter or oil, as this may cause the PVC to harden, making it less smooth or soft.
If you don't have time to boil and clean the mask immediately after use, you can wait. In this case, wipe the casing with a cloth to prevent debris or dirt from drying inside.
Boil the mask within 24 hours. If left in a solid state for too long, the mask may overheat and the air bubbles may slightly increase in size.
If you have glaucoma, do not apply excessive pressure to your eyes. Avoid overtightening the elastic strap or placing the mask over your eyes without using the elastic strap.
If you have had glaucoma or cataract surgery less than a month ago, gently massage the upper eyelids. Consult your eye doctor before using the POSIFORLID eye mask.
For external use only on intact skin. Do not use on irritated, itchy, swollen, or red skin, on open wounds, or after eyelid surgery.
Moist heat can worsen certain forms of eczema or rosacea. If your condition worsens, consult your doctor.
If you suffer from any skin conditions, always consult a doctor before using the mask.
The mask is for single use only, do not share between multiple users.
If your symptoms worsen after a few days, consult your doctor.
In case of unexpected side effects, consult your doctor and/or pharmacist and report it to the manufacturer or the competent local authority.
Keep POSIFORLID eye mask out of the sight and reach of children.
If the heat released is insufficient, the mask should be replaced with a new one. Although the mask can normally withstand 90 boiling cycles, it is the user's responsibility to ensure that the mask is still in good condition. If in doubt, do not use the mask. Boil the mask, let it cool to room temperature, and contact customer service for assistance.
Conservation
Store the clean, liquid (soft) mask at room temperature on clean kitchen paper in the original box or in a cupboard.
