What is it and what is it for?
ACTIGRIP MUCOLYTIC COUGH contains guaifenesin, a type of medicine called an expectorant. It helps relieve productive coughs by loosening phlegm (mucus), making it easier to cough up, and making coughs more productive.
This medicine is used in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take ACTIGRIP COUGH MUCOLYTIC
• If you are allergic to guaifenesin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine ( listed in section 6 ).
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking ACTIGRIP COUGH MUCOLYTIC if:
• have had a cough for more than 7 days or if the cough returns or is accompanied by fever, rash or persistent headache;
• has a persistent cough that may be caused by asthma;
• has a cough that produces a lot of mucus (phlegm);
• suffer from serious liver or kidney problems;
• is drinking alcohol.
Children:
The safety and efficacy of guaifenesin in children younger than 12 years have not yet been established.
Interference with laboratory tests
If you are having a urine test, it is important to tell your doctor or nurse that you are taking or have recently taken this medicine, as it can affect some of the results.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
If you experience any of the following side effects, stop using this medicine and seek medical help immediately: • allergic reactions including skin rashes (which may be severe and include blistering and peeling of the skin) and itching .
• Difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, neck, tongue or throat (anaphylactic reaction).
Other effects that may occur include (frequency not known):
• nausea or vomiting;
• stomach pain and diarrhea.
