Canesten 1% cream
clotrimazole
What is it and what is it for?
Canesten contains clotrimazole which is an antifungal (antifungal) for dermatological use, meaning it acts locally by eliminating skin fungi.
Canestensi is used to treat mycoses (fungi) of the skin and skin folds, such as pityriasis versicolor, cutaneous candidiasis, tinea pedis or athlete's foot, and tinea corporis.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use Canesten
- if you are allergic to clotrimazole, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Canestense if you have already suffered from these problems in the past (relapses of mycosis).
The use of non-breathable diapers is not recommended after applying the medicine in diaper rash.
Avoid contact with eyes. Do not swallow.
Use, especially if prolonged, of products for cutaneous use (applied to the skin) may cause sensitization phenomena such as erythema (localized redness in the area of the skin where the medicine is applied) and itching. If this occurs, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects have been reported with Canesten, the frequency of which is not known:
Immune system disorders: angioedema (swelling), anaphylactic reaction, hypersensitivity
Vascular disorders: hypotension (low blood pressure), syncope.
Respiratory, thoracic and mediastinal disorders: shortness of breath.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: blisters, contact dermatitis, erythema (redness of the skin), paraesthesia, skin desquamation (loss of cells from the top layer of the skin), itching, rash, hives, stinging pain of the skin, burning sensation of the skin.
Systemic disorders and conditions related to the administration site: application site irritation, application site reaction, edema, pain.
Following the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.
