Precautions
Contact your healthcare provider before catheterizing if any of the following situations occur:
• injured urethra;
• bleeding of the urethra;
• pronounced narrowing of the urethra;
• false paths;
• urethritis – inflammation of the urethra;
• prostatitis – inflammation of the prostate;
• epididymitis – inflammation of the epididymis.
Self-catheterization should be performed according to your care plan and the advice of your healthcare provider. Always follow the instructions provided. Instructions for use for men
Use a gentle, unscented cleanser or an alcohol-free wipe to clean the glans penis and urethral opening. Choose the most comfortable position for catheterization (standing, sitting on the toilet, or in a wheelchair).
Open the package and grasp the connector or gripper to remove the catheter.
A: Retract the foreskin, if present. Pull the gripper away from the connector. Hold the gripper anywhere along the shaft of the catheter, so as not to touch it. With the penis raised, firmly squeeze the gripper to begin insertion of the catheter. Release the gripper slightly and slide it back towards the connector. Then, firmly squeeze the gripper again to advance the catheter. Repeat until urine begins to flow. Release the foreskin, if present.
B: Alternative insertion option: Keep the gripper "hooked" onto the connector. With the penis raised, hold the gripper/connector and insert the catheter into the urethra with one hand until urine begins to flow.
Insert the catheter until urine begins to flow. Once the flow has stopped, slowly withdraw the catheter to ensure the bladder is completely empty. Gently remove the catheter.
