Name
COCARNITIN B12 500 mg/2 mg powder and solvent for oral suspension
L-Carnitine/Cobamamide
What is it and what is it used for?
CoCarnitin B12 contains two active ingredients normally present in the human body: L-Carnitine and Cobamamide (Vitamin B12).
These two substances restore the metabolism of fats, proteins and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), promoting the production of energy in cells.
The substances present in CoCarnitin B12 also increase protein production and protein content in muscles and blood, stimulate appetite and body growth and improve the general state of nutrition, especially in malnourished subjects.
CoCarnitin B12 is indicated in case of:
• weight loss caused by diseases of any kind;
• thinness without apparent cause;
• reduction of appetite (loss of appetite);
• weakness (asthenia);
• convalescence;
• excessive degradation of proteins, fats and sugars (as an anticatabolic):
- in long-term therapies with cortisone,
- in thyrotoxicosis, a disease due to excessive functioning of the thyroid,
- in situations where the blood contains a low amount of protein (hypoproteinemia) due to liver or kidney disease.
In children and adolescents, CoCarnitin B12 is indicated in case of:
• states of malnutrition of any kind in children, infants and premature babies;
• growth retardation;
• insufficient weight;
• alterations in the nutritional state of a tissue, an organ or the entire organism (dystrophies);
• absence or reduction of appetite;
• weight loss due to any cause;
• states of debilitation after an infection.
Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take CoCarnitin B12
• if you are allergic to L-Carnitine, Cobamamide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking CoCarnitin B12.
Tell your doctor if you have anemia, because your doctor will need to determine the exact nature of your anemia before you can take CoCarnitin B12.
Tell your doctor, who will monitor you closely, if you have a predisposition to seizures because treatment with L-Carnitine, one of the active ingredients in CoCarnitin B12, could trigger them. If you already suffer from seizures, taking L-Carnitine could increase the number and/or severity of seizures.
Tell your doctor if you have severe kidney problems (severe kidney failure or end-stage renal disease).
In these cases, your doctor will monitor your kidney function during treatment, particularly if it is prolonged over time (see section “How to take CoCarnitin B12”).
The properties of CoCarnitin B12 may be altered by exposure to light, so prepare the solution and take it immediately. Any mixing of the solution with liquids or other foods should also be done immediately before administration.
