What is it and what is it for?
GASPAN is a traditional herbal medicine containing peppermint essential oils and cumin oil.
GASPAN is indicated for the treatment of the most common gastrointestinal disorders, particularly mild cramps, flatulence, fullness, and abdominal pain, including in patients with dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The use of this traditional herbal medicine for the indicated therapeutic indications is based exclusively on long-standing experience.
GASPAN is indicated in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 2-4 weeks.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take GASPAN
- in case of hypersensitivity to peppermint, menthol, caraway, other umbellate plants (aniseed, fennel, celery, coriander and dill) or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- in case of liver disease, gallstones and inflammatory diseases of the bile ducts (cholangitis) or other biliary disorders.
- if you suffer from insufficient acid in the gastric juice (achlorhydria).
- children under 8 years old.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking GASPAN.
Patients suffering from heartburn or hiatal hernia may experience worsening of these symptoms after taking peppermint oil. In this case, treatment should be discontinued.
Peppermint oil should be used with caution in conditions of inflammation and ulceration of the gastrointestinal tract.
Avoid other medicines containing peppermint oil while using this medicine.
Consult a doctor or pharmacist immediately if unexplained abdominal pain persists or worsens, or occurs together with symptoms such as fever, jaundice, vomiting, or blood in the stool.
Children
Since there are no adequately documented studies on the use of this medicine in children aged 8 to 12 years, use in this age group is not recommended.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Gastrointestinal disorders:
Gastric disturbances: (e.g., belching, heartburn, perianal burning, nausea). The frequency is unknown.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders / Immune system disorders:
Allergic reactions such as rash and itching. The frequency is unknown.
If the following effects occur, stop taking the capsules and consult a doctor immediately:
Allergic reactions to menthol, e.g., anaphylactic shock, excessively slow heartbeat (bradycardia), red skin rash (erythematous rash), tremor (muscle tremor), lack of coordination (ataxia), and headache.
