Barrier Film
Description
Class I medical device.
A silicone-based spray that creates a protective film for the peristomal and periwound skin. Alcohol-free, it can be used on broken or damaged skin without causing burning or discomfort.
The film is transparent (to allow visual inspection of the skin) and permeable to oxygen and moisture.
Components
Disiloxane: 93%, Acrylic copolymer: 7%.
How to use
The product's application is very simple and requires no special skills or equipment. The duration of application depends on the frequency of cleaning and secondary dressing or stoma appliance changes. Daily application may be necessary on frequently cleaned skin, but this frequency can be reduced to 2-3 days on less frequently treated areas.
Skin preparation:
- clean the skin with sterile saline solution or an appropriate cleansing solution, and sterile wipes;
- dry the skin thoroughly before applying the spray;
Application of the dressing:
- remove the lid. Hold the nebulizer 10-15 cm from the skin and press down to apply an even layer of film to the affected area. Let it dry for 30 seconds. If necessary, repeat the application on any areas not adequately covered;
- if the protective solution is applied to an area with skin folds or skin-to-skin contact, gently smooth the folds to apply the film and wait for it to dry before allowing the skin to return to its normal position;
- cover the nebulizer again when the product is not in use.
Changing the dressing:
- The protective film can be removed using most medical-grade adhesive removers. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
- apply a new layer of product following the procedure above.
Warnings
Do not use if the skin around the ulcer is infected due to tuberculosis, syphilis, deep fungal infections, or third-degree burns.
If symptoms of infection (fever, swelling, or redness) develop or if the skin deteriorates unexpectedly, seek medical attention.
Resume use of the protective film when conditions return to normal.
The protective film should not be used on infected skin.
Do not use if package is damaged.
The liquid protective film is flammable. Use in a well-ventilated area and away from flames and heat sources. Keep out of reach of children.
The use of other protective products, creams, ointments or lotions may reduce the effectiveness of Askina.
