What is it and what is it used for?
Contact laxative.
NORMALENE coated tablets are used for the short-term treatment of occasional constipation.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Laxatives are contraindicated in patients with acute or unknown abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, intestinal obstruction or stenosis, rectal bleeding of unknown origin, or severe dehydration.
Do not administer to children under two years of age .
Warnings and precautions
During pregnancy and breastfeeding (see What to do during pregnancy and breastfeeding ).
If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
Treatment of chronic or recurrent constipation always requires medical intervention for diagnosis, medication prescription, and monitoring during therapy.
Consult your doctor when the need for a laxative arises from a sudden change in previous bowel habits (frequency and characteristics of bowel movements) that lasts for more than two weeks or when the use of the laxative fails to produce effects.
It is also advisable for elderly or otherwise unhealthy individuals to consult their doctor before using the medicine.
Bisacodyl should be administered with caution in patients with rectal inflammation and haemorrhoidal manifestations.
This medicine contains 0.4 mg sorbitol per tablet, equivalent to 0.4 mg in 100 mg.
Sorbitol is a source of fructose. If your doctor has told you that you (or your child) have an intolerance to some sugars, or if you have been diagnosed with hereditary fructose intolerance, a rare genetic disorder in which patients cannot process fructose, talk to your doctor before you (or your child) take this medicine.
This medicine contains 11.3 mg of sucrose per tablet. This should be taken into consideration by patients with diabetes mellitus.
Possible side effects
Occasionally: isolated cramping pains or abdominal colic, more frequent in cases of severe constipation.
Following the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.
These side effects are generally transient. However, if they occur, it is advisable to consult your doctor or pharmacist.
It is important to inform your doctor or pharmacist of the occurrence of side effects not described in the package leaflet.
