What is it and what is it for?
SODIUM CHLORIDE SALF is a solution containing sodium and chlorine and is indicated for replenishing the body with fluids, sodium and chlorine.


What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use SODIUM CHLORIDE SALF if you suffer from
- hypernatremia (has a high concentration of sodium in the blood);
- hydrosaline plethoric (has an increased concentration of salts in the body).


Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before using SODIUM CHLORIDE SALF
This medicine should be given to you with caution if:
- suffers from hypertension (high blood pressure);
- have peripheral edema (fluid buildup in the extremities, such as the legs, ankles, and hands) or pulmonary edema (fluid buildup in the lungs);
- has reduced kidney function (his kidneys work poorly);
- you have been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia (if you are pregnant and have started having problems with high blood pressure or your hypertension has worsened and you have noticed swelling due to fluid accumulation).

This medicine should be given to you with great caution if:
- has congestive heart failure (inability of the heart to pump an adequate amount of blood to meet the body's needs);
- has severe renal insufficiency (has serious kidney problems);
- presents edema with salt retention (accumulation of fluids due to salt retention);
- are taking corticosteroids (medicines used to treat inflammation) or corticotropins (medicines that stimulate the production of hormones) (see Other medicines and SODIUM CHLORIDE SALF).

In case of prolonged treatment, it must be administered to avoid its reduction.

During treatment, you will be monitored to check the amount of fluid in your body, salts in your blood, and acids in your blood.

Children
This medicine should be administered with caution to children.


Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects have been reported with an unknown frequency (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):
- hypernatremia (increased sodium concentration in the blood);
- hypervolemia (increase in blood volume);
- hyperchloremia (increased concentration of chloride in the blood);
- headache (headache);
- dizziness (sensation of movement or rotation);
- restlessness;
- fever;
- irritability;
- weakness;
- muscle stiffness;
- convulsions (involuntary, sudden, uncontrolled muscle movements);
- coma (deep state of unconsciousness);
- death;
- drowsiness;
- confusional states;
- dyspnea (difficulty breathing);
- respiratory arrest (cessation of breathing);
- thirst;
- reduced salivation;
- nausea;
- vomit;
- diarrhea;
- abdominal pain;
- tachycardia (increased heart rate);
- reduced tear production;
- renal failure (impaired kidney function);
- hypotension (low blood pressure);
- hypertension (high blood pressure);
- pulmonary edema (accumulation of fluid in the lungs);
- peripheral edema (accumulation of fluid in the extremities, such as the legs, ankles, and hands);
- infection at the infusion site;
- pain or local reaction;
- irritation of the veins;
- venous thrombosis (formation of blood clots in the vein) or phlebitis (inflammation of the vein) extending from the infusion site;
- extravasation (leakage of the injected solution from the vein).
