What is it and what is it for?
Vicks Cough Fluid contains the active ingredient guaifenesin, which belongs to a group of medicines called expectorants, which can thin and facilitate the expulsion of bronchial secretions. Vicks Cough Fluid is indicated as a fluidizer for acute and chronic conditions of the bronchial system.
Contact your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 7 days.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not take Vicks Cough Fluid
- if you are allergic to the active substance or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Vicks Cough Fluid.
Take special care and ask your doctor for advice before taking Vicks Cough Fluid if you have a chronic or persistent cough, such as that caused by asthma, smoking, chronic bronchitis and a lung disease called emphysema.
If you need to undergo laboratory tests to determine your 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid and vanillylmandelic acid levels, Vicks Cough Thinner may cause a false-positive result. Contact your doctor if your symptoms persist for more than 7 days, if the condition occurs repeatedly, or if you have noticed any recent changes in its characteristics.
Children
Vicks Cough Fluid is not recommended for children under 2 years of age unless your doctor considers it strictly necessary.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Rarely, side effects may occur that mainly affect the stomach and intestines, such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
In subjects allergic to the components of the medicine, itching, redness and erythema of the skin may occur.
